After the Landis Mill Covered Bridge, the Butcher’s Mill Covered Bridge is the second shortest covered bridge in Lancaster County. It is painted red, the traditional color of Lancaster County covered bridges. It is located on Cocalico Creek Road, just off PA Route 272.
The borough was founded in 1735 by Hans Bucher, a Swiss immigrant. Originally Denver was called Bucher’s Thal, but after a train station was built in town, the name became Union Station. In 1881, townspeople tired of being known as a train station. A 19-year old named Adam G. Brubaker checked the records of post offices in the country and found only one other town named Denver. On Nov. 1, 1881, Union Station officially became Denver. It was incorporated as a borough on Sept. 4, 1900.
